Remote working while waiting for I-765 EAD

Hello,

Our I-129F NOV 2 recently got approved.

I’m a Canadian PR, working remotely for a Canadian company, and getting paid in CAD. My employer agrees to continue my employment arrangements until I’m hirable (I.e. post EAD approval) in the US, then they will transfer me to our US entity.

In planning for the next stages, I wonder if I can work continue to work remotely and getting paid in my Canada bank account while waiting for I-765 EAD?

If the answer is yes, do I need to pay income tax for my Canadian salary during the EAD wait period? (Kinda dumb that the immigration system is decoupled from IRS)

Similarly, can one be ‘self employed’ while waiting for I-765 EAD?

No

No to “I cannot work for an employer outside of the US”? Or no to “self-employed”? Or no to “you have to pay US tax”?

No

no

not applicable as you cant work.

however depending in how many days in the year you are in the US, you may be considered a resident for tax purposes by the IRS. If your spouse files MFJ then your foreign income must be declared. The tax treaty between US and Canada means you wont be taxed twice on it though   Just another quirk of the disconnect you have identified

No.

You need an EAD to be authorized to work from within the US, regardless of who the employer is.  Well-known drawback of the K-1, and one of the primary reasons the CR-1 is a better visa.
