While I am not considering an EV anytime soon, I am glad others are buying them.  It will reduce the growing demand for gasoline and keep a healthy supply for those of us driving ICE vehicles.

Not in our lifetimes.  Nuclear has fallen out of fashion.  At least until we figure out fusion.

I tend to agree with LIB, there is way too much NIMBY, etc. with nuclear, and when you really look down at it, nuclear is not totally clean, there is all that CO2 necessary to get the U out of the ground (do we even have an active U mine anymore?), then you have the spent material that no one seems to know what to do with.  Heck, hydro is another source that has fallen out of favor, the Left/Dems (mostly) want to get rid of all the dams.

It is interesting, I often hear and read on other comment sections, that those not willing to fully embrace EVs are troglodytes, and would have also opposed scrapping the horse and buggy, but it really looks like our woke Left Democrat Green leaders want us to go back to the horse and buggy sans horse of course.

Coal  combustion produces more radioactive  waste than power nuclear fission  today.  The difference is that with nuclear fission, that waste is concentrated and containable.

People don’t like oil either. I grew up in era when oil tankers seemed to spill every week, creating  cleanup problems. That doesn’t happen as often, partly because the tankers are better made and partly because of oil pipelines.

But oil still leaks.

Recall the BP oil well leak that dumped oil in the Gulf of Mexico for 5 months.  Then there is the Keystone XL pipeline that Democrat presidents are always shutting down, using the rare pipeline leak as justification

We’ve discussed the problems with solar energy ad Infinitum on this forum and so we don’t need to rehash it.

The arguments against nuclear fission are based on feels and not facts.  I’d say double digit percentages  of the people arguing against it live in their mom’s basement where they are being slowly killed by radiation from radon.

What is the solution to providing energy for all? That works at night? That keeps countries with regular sub zero temperatures in the winter running?

There is no perfect solution. There is however a least evil solution that doesn’t require a famine that kills billions of people and it is called fission energy.

As for a source of uranium,

* Canada and Australia are in the top 3 in proven uranium  reserves and in production.  Yes mining is happening.

* there is an 80 year supply of proven reserves across the world.

* Thorium is more abundant and could be used instead

I am certainly not against nuclear, or any other form of affordable energy, just pointing out like you there is no panacea regardless of that the Green crowd would like us to believe, so we get the activists to be against something that isn't solar or wind.

California should offer reduced electricity rates to anyone who is willing to depend on solar / wind. Then on days when there isn’t enough wind / solar to sustain their electricity needs, turn off their power. And at nights when there isn’t enough wind to sustain them, turn off their power.

I think fewer than 1 percent would sign up for that.

We all know there are many BB stories that seem to come true.

With Energy Grid Unreliable, Governor Newsom Announces All Cars To Be Wind-Up By 2035

SACRAMENTO, CA — Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that he would be requiring all cars in the state of California to be fully wind-up by 2035. Experts agree that wind-up vehicles will put less strain on the state's weak power grid and help cut back on childhood obesity.

"I heard on the news that our state's electrical infrastructure cannot support millions of people charging their electric vehicles simultaneously," said a concerned Newsom. "Losing electricity at my winery is the last thing I want, so I've decided to alter the plan. New vehicles will no longer have to be electric."

Shellenberger also makes the obvious point that if most electricity is generated using safe, reliable, climate-friendly nuclear power, there is no reason for a massive build-out of renewable power generation. As he savors the Diablo Canyon victory, Shellenberger observes, "We still have a lot of nuclear plants to save, and we have many, many more to build. This is the work of many lifetimes."”

It’s over. Nuclear power is staying in California until the world runs out of fissionable fuel.
