I-130s Submitted - What can I do now to help in the NVC stage?

After 2 months of gathering documents and evidence, I've finally submitted the I-130s for my husband and our three stepdaughters! We submitted online, so I've already received NOA1s for all four applications. They are in Mexico (so CDJ consulate, aka very busy and backlogged), so I'm trying to do as much as I can now to speed up the NVC stage (have documents ready, etc.).

 

Can we start gathering documents now (like his police certificate and my employment letters/pay stubs/etc), or will they be considered out of date by the time we reach that stage?

 

Is there anything else I can be doing to be prepared for the next step?

don't do any police certificate till NVC stage and they ask for it

some expire in 90 days

but yes ,   would be out of date

as for income,  u are probably looking at late 2023 interview and tax documents would be for 2022 

 

there really is no way to speed the process 

it is "hurry up and wait"

Read the NVC process if you haven't already done so. You may get some ideas on preparation.

But as others have said above, your documents will do be latest once you get to NVC so be mindful of that.

Gather any financial co-mingling documents you might have in the coming months, plus evidence of any trips you make to visit him, and do that as often as you can.  Add all of this as an uploaded additional document at the NVC stage in a year or more.  All of that will help to show that the marriage is bona fide at the visa interview in 1-2 years.

In the context of US Immigration, "expiration dates" on police certificates are not relevant.  What's relevant is the issue date, as they are accepted until two years after the issue date.  Still, I would not get the police report until either the petition is approved, or until a year or so after filing the petition, whichever comes first.  Nothing else mentioned should be secured in advance of petition approval, as it would not be current enough to be useful.

 

Best thing to do to speed things up is start NOW, doing the homework for the NVC stage.  Homework is not "asking questions".  It's "study" of guides, forms, and form instructions, PLUS reading about other people's experiences here in the visa forum and in the Mexico portal.

@pushbrk excellent insight, thank you! In my research, I have often come across your replies and have found them very helpful. I definitely plan to make myself a student of the NVC stage in the next year!

Keep an eye on the NVC forums. Pay attention to RFEs and RFEs for Mexican applicants and RFEs for IR2 applicants. 

I see a few people get tripped up at NVC stage because they didn't submit a certain document or they uploaded the wrong document. 

There are also a few RFEs because the sponsor didn't upload the correct supporting documents... W2s/1099s if they filed MFJ or W2s/1099s because they uploaded their tax return not the transcript. 

The only document you can gather right now (without it potentially expiring) is the birth certificate. 

You probably have 8-12 months waiting ahead of you... but there is a chance all 4 I-130s won't be approved at the same time. So, I would start collecting documents once the first or second I-130 is approved and if you want everyone to move over together submit the NVC documents for each case at the same time.

The documents being spoken of are "original" but they will be scanned and uploaded.  Beneficiary carries the originals to the interview.
