There should have been a mutiny after the shots were fired again signaling that this was no longer a barricaded gunman and was again an active shooter.  The chief that made the decisions was the classic example of someone that could not think on their feet.  In my firefighter days, I have encountered a few of those types both on fire departments (mostly neighboring departments) and law enforcement.  Traditionally,, our department was game for anything, and we fought fires as close as we could, and changed tactic continuously as things changed.  Other departments used more of the surround and drown technique with little thought.  Our method usually had us packing up and departing much sooner than the latter.

 

Anyway, this chief and the department officers will face some tough questions, but one other thing I have not heard much about was who left the side door open, or why it was done.  This idiot was shooting on the outside for 10-12 minutes, he should have been taken out then especially being so close to a soft target like a school.
