Hi everyone. Last week my spouse went in for her interview and everything went great and she was approved. She was given a small paper with a date to go and pick up her visa this Friday the 11th, but when we check the visa application status online , it says “ refused “. Someone told us that they experienced the same thing after being approved and they went and picked up their visa with no issue at all. They stated that it’s a “ bug “ in the system that many have experienced and we shouldn’t worry about anything. I’m wondering if this is correct or she we be worried and rush back to the embassy to see what’s going on ? Just seeking some insight on this. Her interview took place at the embassy in Guyana , it went very smooth since we went well prepared with all needed documents and as I said, she was approved there by the consular officer.
Thank you for any help.

Regardless of any verbal approval or approval letter from the interviewing officer, the true indication of visa approval is when the CEAC case status says "Issued".  It is not a bug if it says "Refused".  It means the consulate is not done with processing the visa case.  Just monitor the case status on CEAC.

it should say Administrative Processing while it is processing.

Refused may be an indication of a follow-up needed.

I would contact them via email or phone call if you can to ask

The swapping between AP and refused .. without actually being refused.. and finally Issued has been seen quite a lot over the last few years for unknown reasons. Keep breathing.

I’d like to add one thing that I forgot to mention , maybe this is the reason why we’re seeing “ refused “ ( maybe not ). When she went to the interview , she didn’t have her medical checkup results. She had her medical done on the 22nd of February and was told to pick up her results on the 8th of March. Her interview was on the 25th of February and she was told to pick up her visa this Friday March 11th, so she went to her interview without the medical results. The results for that will be sent from the clinic to the embassy between the 8th and the 11th when she picks up her visa. Can this be the reason to why we’re seeing “ refused “ on the CEAC page ? Again thank you and everyone for all the insight

People also need to give the entire story when asking a question.

Verbal approval but medical submitted late.

I had the interview for my visa, another type of visa 8 days ago and everything was perfect, they told me approved and now my status says administrative processing , I'm also nervous because its been 8 days and I don't have a passport and my status doesn't change! I guess that is normal during the process? good luck

Unfortunately for many of us during this process we have to go through extra steps and there’s many more requirements and things we have to make sure we get right before attending the interview. Like for example , us Cubans who have to attend the US embassy in another country because the US embassy is closed in our home country. And on the way to that country where we have our interview , we have to make a drop in one more country where we have to meet requirements to be able to even pass through there. Not everyone has it as easy as it seems to be for you. Making things much more stressful then they would normally be. Next time I have a question I’ll try to make it easier for you to understand since this one was so hard for you

That explains it.

It'll be ok once they receive the medical results
