Hello everyone,

I need to submit my tax documents. I was wondering will tax transcripts from IRS website do? If so which one should I choose- Is it "wage and income transcript"?  and how many years of tax return should I submit? Should I submit the W2 forms as well? Thank you very much!

Return transcript.

Latest tax year is required (2020 - 2021 tax will be latest after April 15, 2022).

The 2 previous years are optional (2019, 2018).  You may include these if they help show a history of earning the qualifying income.

EDIT:. W2 is not required if you submit the tax return transcript.

The person will need to upload last three year tax return or if this year. A lot of members on here are receiving w2 and 1099 if they do not upload it currently. so it’s best that person also upload the w2 and 1099 so they do not receive RFE

Technically W2/1099 are not required if you upload the transcript, but in practice the NVC want to see W2/1099 that make up the income for the most recent tax year. If they are not there you get a RFE. I would strongly recommend you submit all W2/1099 for recent tax  year for each sponsor. If they have no W2/1099 submit a signed statement explaining why, don't assume the NVC will know why there is no W2/1099 (foreign earned income etc).

In the instructions it mentions you can also include a copy of the tax return (rather than the IRS tax transcript). Has anyone had any trouble with this?

If you can provide the transcript, it is better.  It confirms that the return was actually filed and has been reviewed by the IRS.  If no other choice, then send the return.
