Applying for SSN after entering the USA on K1

Hello All,

 

I have a question about applying for a SSN after arriving on a K1 visa.

 

Once my fiance arrives i know we have to hit the ground running on certain things. Once of my big worries is being able add her and her son to my health insurance because be responsible for 2 uninsured humans can be a huge financial burden if god forbid something happened and a hospital visit was needed.

 

In order for me to add them to my policy i would need to be married and her and her son would need a SSN.

 

Has anyone gone through this process and does it is cause an issue with AOS.

Get her ssn before getting married.   SSN isn't legally required in order to add to insurance,

ok i will check with my insurance since its done through the state since i work for the university of florida.

 

Is there a particular reason for getting her son a SSN before getting married?

FYI, SSN office will only issue SSN if her I-94 is not expired. So, you would need to file AOS asap before getting SSN because you would need the NOA-1 as basis to get SSN.
