Update. I had the same problem as a few others seem to have had in that I was sent a RFE for my full birth certificate, which I included in my pack and is given in the uploaded files in my online account. I responded to the RFE and will call the hotline tomorrow to double check that all is OK.

I have some confusion here. I got a message in my USCIS inbox replying to a message that I sent, saying

"USCIS records indicate that we are awaiting your response to our Request for Evidence (RFE) for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Your case is currently in suspense or on hold until we receive your response."

I responded to the RFE and the Case History says as much, but the message above contradicts this. I don't want to send another message, wait 12 days and get another generic response. Has anyone had success in calling the hotline and managing to speak to a real person? Emma just sends me in a loop and tells me what I already know.

Current case status says this, which suggests that everything is fine.

Case Is Being Actively Reviewed By USCIS

As of November 4, 2021, we are actively reviewing your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number IOE XXXXXXXXXX. Our records show nothing is outstanding at this time.

I'll annoyingly respond to myself here and say that although the phone line is almost useless, the online chat feature enables you to connect to an agent pretty easily.

Sorry for the multiple comments in a row, but I figure that this may be helpful to others.

The online representative said that they couldn't see any documents until after 60 days from submission, so it's probably the case that the person who responded to my message is also unable see the documents and therefore didn't see my RFE response. The generic responses are really frustrating and cause more confusion than they help.

That's such a weird rule. So if we upload RFE responses online, they can only review it after 60 days? Makes no sense. Maybe it's better to send paper copies too? I know others on this thread did both.

Marriage to USC (H1b to GC)

09/14: Received NOA for I-130 in mail
9/24: Mailed I-485, I-864, I-765
9/27: Delivered to USCIS Chicago and signed by Chyba
09/29: Text messages for application
10/7: (2) NOA's for I-485 and I-765 received in mail

10/16: Online status changed to "biometrics scheduled". Bio on 11/09.

11/04: RFE received for Birth certificate

11/05: Uploaded RFE response. Status changed to "we have received RFE response"

I did both. But I haven't checked with an agent what's my real case status.

I uploaded the response online only as well. I actually see the uploaded RFE response in the Case Documents Section of I-485.  It's strange if I am able to see it right away while USCIS can't.

Yeah, doesn't make sense. Well not a lot of things with USCIS makes sense. But I've also seen several posts in this forum where people sent RFE responses online and received interview notifications within a month, so I'm not sure what's going on. I think I'm going to send them a hard copy just to be on the safe side.

I would guess that the representatives that you can reach out to cannot see it, but officers reviewing your case can. As to why there might be a distinction, I'm not sure. It's just frustrating that it's seemingly a black box.

Yep, that might be it - only the officer can see it. See this post below, same type of RFE, and this person uploaded response online. Received interview notice within a month of uploading the RFE response.

Check the size of each file. Should be less than 6MB, then the way the files are named too.
