US Embassy in Moscow shutting down almost all consular services (merged)

I was under the impression that you can only transfer the case from Moscow to another country if you have proof of residence there. That's at least what the NVC told me. Can someone verify this? How are you able to transfer the case then?

No not true if your country doesnt have an embassy or if embassy is closed for non covid reasons (considered temporary). Many ppl get moved to another embassy without being a resident of that country. Iraqis do it. The key, as Ive said before. Is that the embassy must accept and you must be able to get a visa there. It is easier if you have residency of course.

You mean our timeline?  We started back in September 2019.  Our overall journey was 19 months long.  (From start to POE).  😕 

 

The wait for the actual interview once we contacted Kazakhstan, however, was quite fast as I said.  

 

By strict I just meant that they don't accept many transfers compared to for instance, Poland.  I'm not sure if it's because Almaty is smaller consulate or just because they are one of the obvious first choices for Russians to try, so they have to be a bit more discerning.  

 

The actual consulate was not strict at all, they were very friendly and helpful to us and my husband had a good interview experience.

This is generally true, but there are exceptions.  

 

If countries don't have a working embassy they can go somewhere else (for instance Belarus, Cuba, Venezuela, Iraq... a few others in that situation).  And if you ask an embassy and they agree to accept your case, you can interview even without residence there.  If an embassy agrees to take you, they'll take care of the rest and request your case from NVC.

Good to remember. My understanding is everyone here will be dealing with embassies, not consulates.

I sent request to almaty,moldova..they rejeted it ...sent to poland ..yet hear from them

my family case accepted by poland warsaw..they said its gonna take several weeks before they transfer it ..and schedule it based on their backlogs ..seems like better than moscow ..currenty my family lives in st petersburg ..any suggestions on getting schegen visa for poland when they schedule interview ..seems like there is polish consulate in petersburg ..

That is great news! Did you have any special argumentation or reason for the US Embassy in Poland to accept your family case? Do you work or live there now or in the past? Is there any advice you can give to someone who also wants to try to have their case transferred to Poland?

i think multiple people go approved for poland transfer ..i just sent them email wtih details ..nothing special ..they just approved
