What exactly does this mean for the future of I-864

I saw this on Twitter last night but was a bit unsure of what this meant in terms of the I-864. Does anyone know?

Why did the article mention the 'Affidavit of support under Section 213A of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)', wouldn't that imply I-864?

go to the web page you listed and read the changes that would have taken place under the proposed October 2020 rule

read the summary which says ". DHS proposes to clarify how a sponsor demonstrates the means to maintain income as required under section 213A(f)(6) of the Act such as revising the documentation that sponsors and household members must submit to meet the requirements under section 213A(f) of the Act."

 

Later in the article it says USCIS would be able to check credit reports and records

 

It also says how the USC would actually pay back the government for any public benefits used by the immigrant

 

you need to read the changes that would have been made to the I 864 to know this proposal would have affected legal immigration / as to your question for the future,  it will now remain the same

"Proposed".......the proposed changes were never instituted, so there is no change from current requirements.
