Greetings nice people,

I am trying to figure out how to get my fiancé out of the Philippines to a country where I can meet her and get married. The paperwork for her passport was all but finished in Manila when the Fires, volcano, super typhoons and Covid hit. It's been over 2 years now since I was there and I am trying to figure out where she can travel to after she gets her passport, that I can travel to, also! So we can get married and file a CR-1.

Any ideas you have is appreciated. Thank you.

My Filipina wife and I (USC) were able to meet and marry in Costa Rica in December.  Costa Rica was extremely easy to deal with for marriage of non resident foreigners and just a really nice place to honeymoon and spend time together.  Travel has some challenges these days but it can definitely be done.

Hey Top Secret,

Can you tell me the flight itinerary you took to get your Wife with Philippines passport to CR? It appears they would need a C1 visa to transit in the US, so I'm trying to figure out another way.
Thanks,

She has to go around the other way.  Transiting the US is out of the question.  My wife flew Manila-Istanbul-Panama on Turkish Airlines.  I flew LAX-Panama at the same time and met her in the airport and then we flew to San Jose Costa Rica together on Copa Airlines.  Another member here had his fiance fly through the mideast and Spain I think, which may be better because although Filipinas can transit Panama without a visa there is a potential for immigration issues there.  In any case rules are changing by the moment in today's environment but for a Filipina to get to Central or South America they pretty much have to go through Europe, the Mideast or Africa (Ethiopian Airlines is a good option to Brazil).  If she could get a transit visa for the US, she could just as easily get a B1 tourist visa and visit you at home.

Thanks for the info, I'm finding a bunch of flights transiting Amsterdam, but I'm unsure if she can transit there.

Amsterdam would be a good choice for a connecting airport.  Filipinas do not need a visa there so long as the have less than a 24 hour connection, all documents needed for there final destination and don't leave the airside transit area.  I believe they now require a negative PCR test even just to transit in Amsterdam but that is easy to get in Manila now.
