We got our interview date finally! Are we prepping right?

So my husband and I filed for AOS WAY back in July 2019 and thanks to COVID spiking up the wait times we've been in limbo since then. We got our interview date finally for March 8th. I'm terrified and happy at the same time. I'm afraid they'll reject us - and in a way me - even though we have proof in multiple forms that we're legit.

My husband is tracking down his birth certificate (we lost the original in a move), and I have photos from vacations, dates and family gatherings, our lease agreement, logs of our chats together dating WAY back to when we were just dating, my flight tickets from when I visited the country back in 2018 when we got engaged... I'm trying to follow the planning to the letter to make sure our I's and T's are covered. Our 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up next month too, so I'm hoping all goes well and we can celebrate with no worries.

I'm also nervous about what the place we're going to for the interview will be like - it's in Fort Myers FL, and from what I've tried to find online it's a very small facility?

I-129F Case Received - August 29 2018

I-129F Approved - January 27 2019

Case Moved to Consulate - March 05 2019

Medical Exam Completed - March 21 2019

Interview - Done and Accepted on May 9th 2019 ❤️

Moved countries on May 19

Feeling nervous is completely normal, but the interview itself will be fine.  The officer will basically ask you some questions that were asked on the application, and then maybe some more personal questions, like "how you met?", "where dis you get married?" Etc.  Of course do have all the proof of a bona fide marriage, and you will be fine.  Be confident!

Check if a relative can ask for one and mail to you. Or some countries allow you to request it and have it sent by mail (though have it sent to someone's house in the country of origin and they can FWD by Fedex or DHL).

Or if you scanned it and saved it in your computer, print it out (like worst case but it should be fine).

I believe the OP’s husband is the USC.

Kia Ora!

My husband’s interview was a year ago, and we had waited 14 months for it, so there was quite a bit of evidence.   The officer mainly updated my husband’s info on the I-485, to include info about his employment and other new things.

He asked about our wedding, and wanted to see pics.   He asked us the names and birthdate of all of our kids (we each have two, ages 17-24), and some other general life questions.   We showed him pics from everyday life, and some pics from when his daughters visited and met my sons.

The only thing he wanted, which we didn’t bring, was an updated I-94.  Alec had used his AP to come and go into BC via the land border when the girls flew to Vancouver from Auckland.   So if you’ve travelled at all, definitely print one.   Our officer photocopied the passport stamps, so that was that.

We also brought whatever evidence of financial commingling we’d had by then, like communal bank accounts and bills, beneficiaries for insurance and investments, etc.

Best of luck, and you’ll be fine!  My husband tends to do ridiculous jokes when he gets nervous, and even with that going on, he received his green card 3 weeks later!

I'm a little worried about that front - we're on a lease together right now but we haven't gotten around to putting my name on his bank account yet and turning it into a joint one. Both my paychecks and his just go into his bank account so I'm not sure if that's gonna be bad for us.

You would have been much better off posting this in the AOS forum.

YMMV
