Do I really need a joint sponsor?

I returned to the US after 2 years abroad a few months ago. After handling some family affairs and settling back in the US I am now starting a new job this week.

Our petition is at the embassy and I am guessing our interview will be sometime in the next 1-3 months. I will be making well over (+2x) the Federal Poverty Guidelines starting this week. I have no tax returns for the last 2 filing years as I wasn't required to file. I have a joint sponsor lined up but I can't seem to find an answer as to whether or not I will actually need a joint sponsor now that I am working. Can I sponsor my fiance by myself or do I still need a joint sponsor?

The US Embassy looks at a totality of circumstances.  How much do you make.  How long have you been making it.  You have no tax returns for the last 2 years so your income was less than the amount requiring you to file.  You're good on having a good income for 1-3 months, but weak in showing that you had a good income for the last 3 years.  That's not good overall.

Better to get a Joint Sponsor and not need one, rather than not submitting a Joint Sponsor and needing one.   If you don't submit a Joint Sponsor and one is needed, it will delay your case.

I would imagine if the interview is in 3 months then you will not need one, are they scheduling K1's at your Consulate?

They are only concerned with current income. With your income as high as it is, then you will not need a sponsor. If the CO request one, it's still their prerogative, then they will issue a g221(g) Request for Evidence (RFE) for those documents that will substantiate your claim and or a sponsor. I think you will be find considering you are not interviewing in a difficult embassy.
