Unemployed sponsor

Hi guys! Our petition is at nvc stage now. My husband used to live with me in Russia where he wasn't able to work but my income was sufficient for both of us. We were planning to have a co-sponsor and he'd find a job as soon as we move. Because of covid he had to leave Russia and now we don't know when he's coming back so he's stuck in America (nobody knows when the boarders will open). We were wondering if him being unemployed while in America will affect our petition, should he get a job? Or is it OK if we have a co-sponsor. It just doesn't make a lot of sense for him to get a job because the plan is for him to go back to Russia as soon as the boarders are open again

So, how he will support you here if he don't have a job? Not there, not here.

You need to find a joint sponsor for sure but is important to him to show that he can support you too.

What is the plan when you move to here?

Yeah when we move together he will get a job, he has good education/job experience etc. It's just there wasn't a need for him to work this past year so he was focusing on other things. We do have a joint sponsor we are just wondering if him being unemployed now would affect our case?

Is really hard to tell you that because depend a lot of things.

One of the thing they want to know is if you will be a public charge or not.

Have a joint sponsor is good but in some cases are a friend that will not really help with money.

I read in your past posts that will be your in law the joint sponsor.

In my opinion is important to show that he wants to support you.

Can be a option he stay here until you have a visa and start to working and get things ready for you?

You already work to a company from here right? This is a good thing I guess.

He won't qualify as your sponsor, so you'll need a qualified joint sponsor, or a spouse with a job.

Yeah that's one of the options, it just would be so sad to have to be apart. Because who knows when I'm gonna get my interview with the covid situation. Thank you!!

Yeah we do have a joint sponsor (his dad). The question is more if we do have a joint sponsor will my husband being unemployed affect our case

It depends on how qualified the joint sponsor is and the rest of the totality of your circumstances.  An unemployed petitioner is a negative factor, but not the only factor.

Thank you! The cosponsor is a medical professional. We both have good education, a lot of previous job experience, no health issues, no age difference, have been living together for over 3 years now, have a dog together and even some savings))) I really hope everything goes well

Try not to listen negative comments if you can. Sponsor CAN be unemployed. He needs to show enough assets. If you go to state department it’s written there. It’s good to have a joint sponsor but you as long as you meet their requirements you’re good. Trust me I know for sure.:-) All the best!

That is not correct.

Merely being unemployed will not have any impact on the success or failure of your application. My husband was unemployed at the time too. The consular Officer will look at the entire picture.

But getting approved by the embassy is one thing. The reality of life here with an unemployed husband is something else. How does he propose to feed you and provide healthcare for you? Do you have a job waiting for you here?

Hi,

Others have discussed the sponsor situation, but I wanted to ask about why he cannot return to Russia?  I understand there is a travel ban, but I believe spouses of Russian citizens can travel.  They need to make arrangements with the Russian consulate, I believe, but if his visa is still current he should be able to travel.
