There is no activity today and I found this article on CNN today and found it rather amusing/ignorant. Any ideas from anyone else? Don't we live in America, the melting pot?!

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/12/04/navarrette/index.html

It is just another example of the small-minded Americans (not all of us). During the last election, politicians and the media used the gay marriage issue to distract us from the real problems going on in this country. This election they are using immigration. Unfortunately, the dumb ones will fall for it again.

You're dead on, Steph!!! ...Damn shame though  ...'Land of the Free' and some people are afraid to think for themselves

Gill

It really is a shame. "Land of the Free" is a loose term nowadays. Don't get me wrong, we are still better off then many, but we are a far cry from what we were. What is forgotten is that we are all immigrants of some form or another. I am not sure why this political generation feel entitled to shut the country doors now. Who do they think they are? Not that I want to go on a rant here....

:)

I think the primary point of Navarette's article was that people fear that immigrants will change the current culture. It is true today and it was true over 200 years ago. He quoted Benjamin Franklin and others who said things that were just as narrow minded, bigotted and anti immigrant as what is being said today.

Despite the fact that this country was built by immigrants and our culture is stronger and more vibrant because of their influence, human nature does not evolve much over the years. We still fear change and are reluctant to welcome large groups of people who are "not like us".

Well said, Bill  . This is basically what I was looking for.

There is quite a lot of ignorance in Navarette's article. I think the only way to stop illegal immigration is to put tarrifs on countries like China and India that use super-cheap labor, which would make american products with american labor more cost-competitive. To compete with the cost of Chinese goods, a lot of american countries are forced to use illegal immigrant labor.

If you don't want illegal immigrant labor, stop shopping at Walmart. The super budget stores are driving prices down to unreasonable levels.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

:)

That was my point....everyone is technically an immigrant...these people should realize that!

Yes, but....these people in this small town in North Dakota were most likely all born there. They are not immigrants. Their ancestors were. And are they really racist? Maybe they just want to preserve their own local culture by deciding not to open businesses that will attract immigrant workers. It's their choice. And still a right......right? Don't get me wrong, I prefer a good blend of many cultures in my neighborhood. But not every American wants this. Otherwise those residents wouldn't be living in Bumf#@k, North Dakota. So, i dont think I can say that choice is racist. Judging someone by their skin tone, ethnic background, etc....That's racist. Unfortunately so many Americans are on high alert now, very cautious of "outsiders" or "new comers" or "immigrants". But can you really blame them? The hairless chimp in D.C. scares this nation into pre-judging. Its a shame. We've taken a step back. And that's not good. "we're a far cry from what we were"....well, do you remember the 50's and 60's?? Ask an older black American. No sir, we do not need to be what we were. We need education and security. This brings trust and open minds. Then eventually we get through this mess.

Yeah Jason I'd heard the same thing about K1s, you have to speak to a person.

If you happen to hear something...let me know (PM plz) and I'll call them myself later or tomorrow.

Will do!!

I hear ya. What I meant by "...what we were" was referring more to not having to worry about my phone being tapped by that horse's ###. I completely hear what you are saying though.

Sometimes it's easier than speaking Canadian eh?

I remember once I tried to have a conversation with a Canadian truck driver from way up north. He was speaking english but I did not have a clue what he was saying.

Nah, there's a few I'm sure. Me and Lora, and probably a host of non-posters. I'm thinking about setting up a calendar and starting a betting pool with Pete, and whoever gets the date right gets a prize. (sole control of the radio console during christmas visit probably. we just cannot agree on music ever)

might be an interesting distraction.

Well, you are not even out of order yet. There is nothing the Senator can do but to ask VSC to speed up in general. There are still petitions in front of yours and it would be illegal for them to move you up at the Senator's request.

Seriously, you shouldn't even be calling yet. If you aren't touched by January, then you should start barking.

Haha. Well, I'm from Louisiana, so I can't really say anything about that. I think I'm probably the hard one to understand. At least I have a drawl that slows me down so that you have time to figure out what the hell I'm saying.

My SO always messes with me about talking so slow. I'm OCD and can't stand to misspeak, so I tend to slow down and make sure each word is correct. If something is wrong, I have to go back and immediately correct myself.

There are, but only like 6 and they sent I-129f on July 25 at the earliest. Seriously, there's nothing the Senator can legally do about your particular case. Wait a week or two before getting too anxious. I say this because you and I are in the same boat and I am driving myself crazy.

Unless you are outside the 6 month processing mark there is really nothing a senator can to for you. The most they will say is "You are not outside VSC's normal processing times". Just hang tight until you reach that 180 day mark.
