Hi everyone,

just thinking ahead here. When do you usually file for renewal of EAD based on a pending AOS? 6 months before expiration? 3 months?USCIS says no more than 180 days before but I just wanted to ask.

also, it is free of cost for a renewal right? The fee calculator said $0, but I wanted to know from those who have been through it. Are processing times the same for a renewal as an initial EAD?

I'm gonna send EAD and AP forms with like 175 days left since it will take at least 4/5 months to get approved. Yes, they are still free.

That’s what I was thinking! So with about 6 months to spare for a seamless transition.

How to get the fee waived? I guess when they see “Renewal” they waive it?

The fee will be waived based on the category. You will use the same category as before because you still have an AOS pending.

Hi there!

My husband had to renew his combo card once whilst we endured the long Seattle wait for an AOS interview...  He sent it right at about the 90 day mark.  I believe that there is a place on the form to clearly indicate that it is "renewal" rather than "initial" application, which waives the fees.

Also - there was really no measurable wait, although this was last Fall.  The receipt letter for the application serves as evidence of continuing employment auth if I remember correctly.  He was already working, and just provided his employer with a copy of the letter.

Hopefully once things reopen, you guys will receive an interview date 🙂

Thanks so much!! I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy! Hooray for Phase 2 (although I barely go out anyways haha!)

I am bracing for another 14-15 month wait from now, and if it’s earlier I’ll just be pleasantly surprised.

It took us exactly 5 months to get the EAD so to be safe I’ll send it in with 5.5 months left, and then use the NOA1 for extension (hopefully that still applies the way you said!)

Can we extend multiple times?

No. You will apply for renewal and the NOA1 will act as an extension letter.

Also include a photocopy of the I-485 receipt notice as your proof* that you paid the full I-485 fees after July 30, 2007.

Is the extension for another year?

The automatic extension is 180 days from the expiration date: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/44-automatic-extensions-employment-authorization-documents-eads-certain-circumstances The new EAD and AP should be issued with 1-year validity.

Same here.  My garden has never looked so good, lol.  I am hoping with Phase 2 we don't see a sharp increase in cases, like California is having.  Stay safe ❤️
