I have a confession to make. I am sick...

 

...of coronavirus commercials.  I in no way feel comforted by them, moved by them and I'm certainly not entertained by them.  At the very least they make me want to change the channel.  At worst they make me want to actively boycott the products.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yeah, it is getting very old to see these celebrities and political elite out there lecturing us.  There comes a point when people will just tune them out.  I know I tune out our governor every time I see her on the television, or hear her on the radio.

These ads are everywhere and really are a bit over the top in their lecturing attitude.  Sure, I can turn off the television, I have stopped watching any news stations, but I do like some of the old sitcoms.  Heck, I even see them on Amazon, and I suppose Netflix has them as well.

I have to come down on the side of the columnist on this one,

If I see more ad stating that "we are in this together" or "together, we will get through this", I will to throw up. I think my non Netflix, Amazon screen time is less than an hour a week, in part because if the ads . 

 

Yuna is right, switch it off.

I just hate whining snowflake articles is all, but just like turning off annoying TV ads, I can also elect to briefly read it/not read it and then choose to not let it bother me emotionally. I also shred political mail and tell door-to-door evangelists to get off my lawn.

 

It's kind of like 9/11. For a while the constant recaps on TV on anniversary days or 'reflective' ads were both simultaneously traumatizing and somehow horror-porn. Turn it off, get outside, and or find something better to watch.

Commercials just suck in general. 

 

There's just no justifying, in this house, wasting 1/3 of every half hour or hour watching commercials for **** we won't buy. Added emphasis on people being a lot more micromanaging of their time., and commercial-free subscription content, both aiding in the annoyance of commercials overall. 

 

In the few times where I felt compelled to find a stream of FOX, immediately being bombarded with ".. your American dream" had me kill that browser tab in record time. 

 

If George Carlin were alive I bet we'd have tons of (new) grievance-comedy about commercials.
