Due to what I mentioned in the title I've been worrying about a million different things before even being able to apply for a K1 Visa. I'm stuck in Australia and USCIS are closed because of COVID-19...

Anyway. I'm very worried about my depression making me inadmissable. Here are the facts.

I've been seeing psychologists for depression for years now, I'm currently 21 and when I was 20 I sent myself to the hospital with lacerations. I don't need to go further into detail on that but needless to say it wasn't great. Since then I've been doing a lot better and my scars have been fading. Unfortunately I called an emergency number and police came to do a wellness check on me. I'm hoping this doesn't screw me in the future. I'm doing a lot better now and haven't needed to see my psych as much.

This is probably the least of my worries as I haven't even been able to apple for the visa yet but what should I do?

Not sure how being stuck in Australia is a bad thing.. but ok.. and USCIS isn’t closed, just the consulates are closed for face to face meetings..

When you go to the medical, they’ll make a determination and if required send you for further assessment with one of their psych’s before they determine your medical classification. Unfortunately there isn’t much we can do about it other than wish you luck and remind you that waivers maybe available, the consular office will advise you of this during your interview if found inadmissible due to medical conditions.

Should you pass and obtain a visa, there’s no being stuck in Australia, you can apply for authority to leave the country. The travel ban is in place for certain resident Aus citizens expected to return to Aus post travel, since k1 is the first step to migration you’ll be able to demonstrate you don’t intent on returning and therefore be eligible for exit approval.

Either way, not much point worrying about things you haven’t even tried yet.. first step is for you to actually apply for the visa, then approach each step as it arises so as to not increase anxiety levels.

I do not think your depression is going to make you inadmissible.

I am also medicated with antidepressants / anxiolytics and went through the medical exam without any problems and got my  K1 visa approved.

During the appointment they asked me about the meds I take,  (since they make you write a list of current medications you take if you do) and I explained briefly without giving too much details why I take them (definitely the doctor knew what they were for). They did not ask for details but one of the questions they asked me was if i had ever seen a psyquiatrist / psychologist or had tried hurting myself before. Just answer with the truth but not give too much details if they do not ask for them.

I suppose is under the doctor's discretion if they want to send you to see another specialist. But in my case it did not happen. I was also afraid my mental condition could have been an issue during the exam and that I was going to be asked about it during the embassy interview but it all went smooth.

Don't be afraid to apply, show them you are doing a lot better!

Hope I could help you with my experience.

Begs the question is the CR1 would not be a better option, lots of issues with a K1.
