I am confused.  I thought the K1 visa expires in 6 months after you had your medical exam. Why is it expiring so soon?

True. She should check the expiration date on her visa. It definitely is 6 months from the date of the medical exam

I wonder if they currently have the visa in hand or if they are talking about the I-797 expiring?

I assumed she had it in hand since they’re wondering if she can enter the US with it. If she didn’t have it in hand the question would have been kind of pointless since she still needs to go through the interview right? And the Madrid embassy suspended the issuing of K1 visas so I doubt they’re doing any interviews right now

Sometimes the online system says "Issued" but the visa applicant doesn't physically have it:

"The status is issued but it has never been received due to the closure."

The visa expiration date is tied to the medical but the embassy follows the recommendation from the medical facility who has the leeway to indicate what date they will use. Anytime you have additional testing it influences the expiration date. It has been that way for the 6 years I have been here answering questions, especially to those in the PI because of the rampant TB problems. Further information is contained in the following link.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Medical examination results are valid for six months in normal circumstances. But if you have certain medical conditions your examination results could expire in as little as 3 months. In any case, you should not have your medical examination until the NVC notifies you of your interview appointment date. You may be denied entry to the United States if your medical examination results expire before your arrival.

Yes, that is the state we are currently in. Ours has a status of issue but we don't have it in hand.

Maybe she had her medical last year (some people take it in advance) or maybe they had administrative processing after the interview?

I believe the expiration is when the medical exam is conducted.

She has the visa in her passport already. Looks like it set to expire as everyone on here and those I have reached out agree that she will not be allowed to enter the United States. Extremely frustrating because of the time and money spent, as well as the lack of response of a reissuance.

Normally, that is correct.  However, sometimes, visas expire prior to 6 months after the medical.  For example, my wife's visa was set to expire 5 months after the medical.....4 months after issue.
