Hello all,

We have some docuements to translate from Portuguese to English to submit with our I-130. My wife and I contacted a translator and the translator was asking if it was necessary to translate every detail of the finance statement (for example) like the glossary, small letters, questions about if we want paperless statements in the future, etc. Can we choose to translate only relevant information of those statements? Or every detail is necessary? We're asking because the cost of translation is very high for page...

Thanks in advanced and regards,

Thiago & Nelly

Each detail must be completed.

Save your money. If you can translate to English, then you can be the translator. Anyone can certify the translation of a document if they can do it accurately and complete a certification form.

The certification form can be quite simple. A suggested format by the USCIS is as follows:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ___________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

There are many translations services available online that are cheap and are certified and also for the extra cost will notarize your documents. Its what we used. I think ours charged 20 dollars per 200 words. And it looked very professional.

Wouldn't be nice if person receiving the answer to their question would just acknowledge the fact that you did something for them, and they appreciated it. It's so, simple. Just push the heart and ring the trophy for "thanks. Simple.

This is so TRUE. People take the time and effort to help you during their day and no one will thank you or appreciate it. I'm amazed by it sometimes. At least hit the reaction button.

I wish we also did updates on the forum sometimes like stories or what not.

Every detail of the documents you will submit, but it may well not be necessary to submit every page of a bank statement, etc.  If you are just using it to show co-mingling of finances, only use the page or pages needed to demonstrate what is needed.

Beware of others telling you what YOU are capable of doing.  How do they know your capabilities to translate, etc.?

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

And therein lies the $64,000 dollar question. If they can translate to English. That surely would be a consideration before attempting to take on a project like that.
