Does my wife need to adjust anything with her existing social security number?

Hi all,

 

Quick question. So my wife was an au pair thus already has a SSN. We have since done the K1, was approved, applied for AOS and the EAD card as well. She was approved and received the EAD/advance parole card. She doesn’t have her green card yet.

 

Her existing social security card (the physical one) is the one she received when she was an au pair. On it, it says “Valid for work only with DHS authorization”. We plan on getting her a new card, but does the fact that she was granted the EAD mean that she is ready to work? Or does she need a new social security card without that note on it?

No change needed. An SS card issued due to an EAD would have the same language on it anyway.

When she gets a green card, she can get a new card without that text.

EAD IS your wife's  DHS Work Authorization. So applying for another one now  won't remove the wording "valid for work only with DHS authorization"  It can be removed only with a green card.

The only reason to get a new card after EAD (rather than waiting for your green card) if you got one during the K-1 90 days (or had one from an earlier stay in the US) would be if you changed your name and wanted to get something that required a card in your legal name (such as a non-AB60 driver's license in CA).
