They wanted to see my passport at the interview but I'm not sure if that was as a "second form of ID" or if it had to be the passport. You may want to get a new one if you have the option.

They wanted to make sure about the trips you have mentioned on N400 form are true or not. They look for enter and exit stamp.  In other words not being outside USA for more than 6 months. double check but i dont think need to renew passport for interview.

Hi all,

I’m on the process of filing N400 based on my marriage to a USC. My question is my passport has already expired . Do i need to renew it before application or I won’t need it on the process of filing ?? Thank you.

You don't need a current passport for the application or for the interview unless it contain stamps of international trips. HOWEVER, unless you think you'll get your US citizenship and passport within a year (6 months for me), I would renew it now. You'd never know when you'll need it.

imo I would feel like I'm not a citizen of any country if I didn't renew my former passport while residing in this country. I used to tell a friend -- why didn't you renew your passport? You're not (yet) an American!
