After approval, then what?

My fiance and I submitted our I-129F form in August, we just received an approval notice. It says he can arrive between 1-14-2020 and 5-13-2020. What are our next steps? Do we need to do anything else before he moves here and we get married?

The approved petition will be sent to NVC.

NVC assigns a case number and sends the packet to the consulate.

Consulate processing steps vary by consulate. It will include completing a DS-160, scheduling the interview, completing a medical, gathering documents, etc., then the interview.

After the interview will be Administrative Processing.(AP).

Then the visa is issued.

Then you enter the US before the visa expires.

Then you marry within 90 days.

Then you file for AOS packet.

I'm confused...earlier this month you said you determined that you want to get married and do the CR-1 process. Now you're saying you have an approved I-129F?

This was posted January 10, 2019. It is 2020. This would've been a year ago. In between January and August we decided the I-129F would better suit our situation. Thank you.

It is 2020 now...dang. haha My mistake. I'm still not used to seeing it.

Second, we need a little housekeeping on your end. Many of our answers are predicated on the information you supply in your profile. I'm assuming that's the initial I-129F approval validity period since it's exactly 4 months.

In the I-191 Notice of Action, it mentions that "the petitioner can also file I-824, Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition, to request that we notify another consulate of the petition approval for visa processing purpose." Do I need to file the I-824? Also, how do I know which consulate it is going to? When will I receive a case number?

All I-129f petitions for Canada go to Montreal, and all of the interviews are done there.

 

Hey, @Greenbaum, what is the current recommendation on when K-1 folks can or should begin calling NVC to get their #s?
