Health insurance on K1 visa

Hello,

I have just arrived in the US and me and my fiancee are looking at options for my health insurance while I'm on a K1 visa and waiting for my AOS

She has health insurance through her work which is $50 per month for just her. We have looked at adding me to her insurance after we are married and the premium rockets in price to almost $700 per month.

We are based in Charlotte, North Carolina, and as such we have been looking at policies provided by BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina. The lowest quote we have, which starts on the first of January, is $285 per year.

Does anyone on here have any experience in getting health insurance while on a K1 visa? And if so is it possible to find cheaper cover or is that what we are going to have to pay?

Thanks!

I doubt you will find cheaper than $285 per year.

YMMV

Edit: the quote is $285 per MONTH not per year!

$285 per month, even for minimum essential coverage with a  high deductible is about normal.

YMMV

I'd love $285/month. My portion of the premium is over double that and my employer pays the other half.

That's just the high cost of living in the US...and $285 is a steal (assuming the coverage is decent, obviously).
