I-751 November 2019 Filers

Just dropped my wife’s I-751 full packet out at the post office. Didn’t see a thread yet for November so figured I’d create one so we could all commiserate together.

 

Her’s is going out to the Dallas, TX drop box.

I sent my package 10/28, delivered 10/31, and just got a text today that its been accepted. YSC Potomac service center. Let the wait begin!

I shipped mine of on Saturday and it was delivered yesterday by FedEx. No update from USCIS yet. I'm in CA so much had to send it to Phoenix, AZ

We sent our packet on October 22  (green card expiration is Jan 24, 2020) - packet was returned to us (because it was 92 days before renewal ... not 90 days before renewal).   We called USCIS who also told us to also mark sections N/A when the question is not applicable (kids, interpreter, etc).  UGH.    Completed new app,  marked N/A as suggested,  sent in today.

Going to send in our I-751 in the next few days, to Phoenix I believe. We've got most of the evidence together, just putting the finishing touches on the application.

 

Does anyone know how soon they're currently sending out the extension letters? We've got some travel plans in February that hopefully we don't need to reschedule. I'd try to look it up but I've got a baby screaming in my ear 😫

For real?  I left "other used names" and "interpreter" blank.  We did not fill in those in my AOS application and it was not returned!  I hope  they do not ship mine back, ugh!

they wont. i did not mark any of those and it was accepted and i got my NOA

I suspect USCIS official who spoke to my wife was being extra cautious about marking all the blanks N/A.   I read other posts here (visajourney) where others said the same thing.  And I imagine it gets down to the person @ immigration who reviews the application (strict vs lenient).   You're probably ok.   We just didn't want the application returned again so made sure there were no blanks.. fingers crossed.

I do not advise using extension letters for international travels (if that is what you intend to do).  I have seen a lot of people get stuck in airports because the airlines do not recognize anything other the physical I-551 form (Green card).   In fact, I was going to do it, but I was advised not to.  Since we are from the same country, I asked a Moroccan immigration officer at port of entry about this and she stated that if it is not an actual Green Card, they are not allowed the travel unless proven otherwise with extra documentation.  It is easy to fake the extension letter, but hard to do for the card itself!

I don’t think believe this is true of the general advice given on VJ but I’ll look up there experiences and share links.

 

My wife and I also intend to travel internationally with the extension letter. Not going abroad for somewhere between 12-18 months due to processing times doesn’t seem quite right.
