@missilemanOhhhh man, I’m quite scatty and lose stuff/leave stuff fairly regularly 🙈.

As California is a sanctuary state, does this mean I could leave my green card at home (assuming I’m given one), assuming I was staying local?

I always carry my greencard with me. I have never lost my wallet ever in my life, so I don't see myself losing the greencard that is inside the wallet either. I have a tendency to watch it like a hawk.

We were once stopped at an immigration check point on the i-5 north when driving from San Diego to Los Angeles. Glad I had the greencard with me.

I have also been asked to show two forms of ID when at the bank, it was perfect to be able to show both DL and GC.

All that means is that most local LEOs will not cooperate with ICE, it does not mean that ICE or CBP does not operate in CA.

My point is pretty clear.  Your life....your choice....your risk......take the risk or obey the law as written.

https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/do-i-really-need-carry-green-card-me.html

"If you are 18 or older, you do have to carry your green card with you. Section 264(e) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (I.N.A.) requires all lawful permanent residents (LPRs) to have “at all times” official evidence of LPR status.

Failing to have your green card with you is a misdemeanor and if you are found guilty you can be fined up to $100 and put in jail for up to 30 days. (I.N.A. Section 264(e).) A copy is not good enough, because the law does not use the word “copy” or refer to “other evidence” of LPR status."

Thank you everyone for your opinions , I think finally I follow the law and I will carry my GC all time  because I would not like to be a situation where I could have issues for that and more because the letter and the law mention that like mandatory

thank you All again
