It's okay, the Texans are going to make the playoffs... then get shut out again. Might as well not watch the rest of the season, I know whats gonna happen.

Can say, looking like the Texans are done now. In fact, their play looks like they mailed it in sometime in the 3rd/4th. Dropping passes hitting them in the hands/chest, no sense of desperation.. that comeback in the 2nd quarter demoralized them and wore them out.

 

Titans @ Chiefs.. will be good.

Texans always just panic or give up when mountains seem too tall to climb.

 

Pattern all season: win 2, lose 1; win 2, lose 1...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I know Texans fans will be upset at this, and they should, as no team should be blowing a 24-0 lead in the playoffs. I know if it was my team I'd be frothing at the mouth.

 

But the interesting thing I see is the sports psychology of momentum. I honestly didn't care much about it until the Germany 7-1 victory over Brazil in the world cup some 6 years ago. You can see the swagger Brazil started off with, and by the time Germany scored the 3rd and 4th goals, you can see mentally they had given up. The adrenaline rush wears off, which leads to physical and mental tiredness. That's exactly what I saw of the Texans after the 1st half. My wife was watching and was like "what's so bad about a 28-24 score?". I was like, exactly! It was a brilliant question. Because going into the week, I'm sure the Texans would be happy with being down 4 at half-time 28-24, if that was all they knew. However, the way it happened, from a 24-0 collapse, just wrecked them. After the half, Brazil had a chance of coming back, but you could see at that point it was all about playing for pride than a victory. That's what it looked like for the Texans in the second half, even more-so the 4th quarter. But the Chiefs had their own adrenaline rush and momentum from that first half, and the put their foot on the Texans' throats. 

 

With how sensitive the psychology of momentum is, I think it might have been best for the Texans to just punt rather than execute a fake, but there's still decent odds the Chiefs make something of that as well. Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and that's why they call it Monday Morning Quarterbacking. I just think the psychology of it is interesting.

Biggest test coming for the Niners next game. As awesome as my team is, they do have their struggles against some good teams, and if the 49ers that showed up in the second half against the Packers is the one that shows up against KC they'll get blown out.. KC is way too good. If its the first half team that shows up, it's looking good. I worry that they've had rather comfortable postseason victories, this next game will be anything but a cakewalk.
