It's somewhat old, but I found a recent article reiterating the same points. Also, the explanation on the original link is exceedingly clear.

If you would like to see the more current discussion, it's a lawyer telling other lawyers how to deal with the immigration issues which arise in visa applications; it's not particularly easy to read for someone whose native language is not English, or for someone who doesn't understand what audience he is speaking to and all the acronyms and weird government terminology:

Thanks......appreciate the link....

Well, as people comment on these forums, there is AP and there is AP. Meaning sometimes it's just bureaucratic processing (paperwork, stamps, preparation) and sometimes it entails much more extensive document and security checks. So It just depends on what "kind" of AP they are doing. It's a catch-all phrase for "more work is being done," without any indication to the petitioner/beneficiary of the kind of work being undertaken.

Every visa applied for goes through AP.  It’s a catch-all term.  For some it means the visa is being printed and affixed to the passport, and for others it is an 18 month security process.

thank you for sharing your experience. the Administrative process shouldn't take too long time like 2 months usually it is up to 4 weeks bot each case is different . My in-laws had the same experience one year ago and they were in Administrative process for 5 weeks then they finally had the visa issued.  also some had the experience that the moved from Administrative process to issue then back to Administrative process. just keep tracking on the web site.

just I have some questions when NVC approve your case and sent to the embassy? how long it took to get the appointment email ? and how far was the interview from the appointment email?!

thank you!

Hi Mikepeter- Our case was expedited through NVC directly to the Embassy for medical reasons. It was sent from NVC to the Embassy in Jerusalem on March 14th. We had to transfer our case from US Embassy Jerusalem to Cairo which was done March 26th, it was approved for transfer on March 31. After so long of not hearing anything from Cairo Embassy, I made contact with the Senator's office in the state I am registered to vote on July 11. They initiated an inquiry on July 12th  and on July 14th we received the email letting us know we were ready to schedule. Our interview was on Aug 5. It seems Embassy in Cairo responds to Senator inquiries if that helps at all. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope AP doesn't take too long as we nee to get to the US to be next to my sick mother.

I can totally understand you. This process is really nerve wrecking. All you want is to be done with it. There is no one really to talk to and you‘re pretty much on you‘re own. The people here should watch out for one another. Support and build each other up since this is really frustrating. It‘s said pretty fast and easy that you JUST HAVE TO WAIT... it is hard to go through when you don‘t know if this is the end or if they come around wanting something else.. and if so, when. I wish you the best of luck!

Karry- I agree 1000% Thank you so much for your support. It is frustrating. Maybe it isn't the case for all but our lives are on hold until we get through this process. It is a waiting game but we also have to put on hold our plans and dreams just to see if someone behind a glass window thinks we are deserving or not.

Thanks Steveblue- I have read about it online I just wanted to post here about our experience and see if others have been through this same issue. Helps to have  a place to be able to safely vent about the process.
