I don't know about the US Embassy in Ghana, (but I suspect it to be the same), but my fiance just had her interview in Bogota, CO, on July 15th. The CO wanted a authenticated copy of my divorce before granting approval. Some places don't require it, but being that Ghana has a high rate of fraud and from what I have read, the CO's are particularly scrutinizing, I would send not the originals but notarized and authenticated copies, those accounted from your local county/parish courthouse for example, to your beneficiary. But don't be surprised if they ask for more.

Good luck!

Bring originals (or notarised copies) AND photocopies. The safest way to go.

The most important documents to bring actual copies of would be divorce / death certificates as copies don't prove their validity. You can usually obtain an authenticated copy with a raised stamp/seal on them for relatively cheap.

All other documents can be copies unless the embassy requires different.
