Will change of address delay AOS process?

Hello! I'm looking for some advice on the best approach. My fiancé recently arrived to the US on his K1. We are currently living and getting married in AZ, but we'll be moving to Chicago in August. We're planning on submitting the AOS packet as soon as possible, so we've listed our AZ address on all forms. I know that we are required to inform USCIS about our move to Chicago-- is this something that will considerably delay our process? Should I wait to do the AOS packet until we have a Chicago address, and then put that address on all the forms?

I think there are two things you will want to consider: the expiry of your fiance's I-94, and the frequency with which USCIS screws up address changes and ends up sending notices to old addresses. I'm sure they don't always screw up address changes, but I've read of enough experiences on VJ this year to be concerned. If you can wait until after the move to file, that would be my recommendation.

 

As far as a delay, there may be one when your case is transferred from one local office to another.

Agreed - if the I-94 is valid until after you move, I would wait.

 

I would not wait to file otherwise. It's a long waiting game and the delay is negligible in the big picture.

This assumes the COA actually gets updated in the system.  Occasionally it has been reported that it hasn't

Agree with @junkmart and @geowrian.  The I-94 expiration would be my first concern.....

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. His I-94 expires on August 31st.

I'm just not sure which delay to choose-- delay submitting now in order to use the new address, or submit now and change the address and possibly have a delay later on because of that. Hmmm.

Based on the info you provided- AZ is the  California service center and Chicago is Nebraska service center. Perhaps check the processing times for each? If you mail to CSC and move it would then be transferred to Nebraska. But you dont want it to get hung up in CSC if they are going real slow. Lots to consider....

This is an AOS from K-1 case...no service centers involved (Edit: Well, unless you count NBC for the I-131/I-765).
