The dirty little secret about I-751 is that it's so easy to get approval that USCIS has stopped doing most interviews and approve most petitions based on the paper record. So if you know what they want, you're 80% there. Click on the arrow below to see, in a single post!, a framework for the categories of evidence they require and examples of each. Then just diligently assemble them over time from marriage to the time you apply. You've got this!

Thank you so much for telling me the little “secret”! I mean, during AOSsubmitted the same kind of evidence so I just need to submit the updated ones + what we obtained after AOS. I didn’t think about the Will, though (my husband’s Will has my name in it). I’ll be sure to add that on the list!!! I feel more confident about it now...thank you so much😭😭😭❤️

I feel you.

Our emotional self could sometimes become slightly out of sync from our rational faculties. Specially, when one is dealing with a bureaucratic Blackhole such as the case with USCIS. I have suffered from lingering anxiety from the initiation of AOS myself.

It helps if you have some folks in real life where you can share your thoughts on the regular basis and they act as a support network. I have also tried to do some volunteering activities working with people in need and that has helped a lot in seeing my own life issues in  a new light and taking my focus away from myself and into the world in a constructive way.

Exactly! You worded my anxiety so beautifully😭😭  I was really scared during the AOS process but the officer who interviewed us was really nice and frank to us so that was a relief (people at my local USCIS office were very kind, too). I’m still in process of recovering from mental health issues but I try to go out and meet people as much as possible. I volunteer at an animal shelter, too (I love animals🐶🐶). Thank you so much for the encouragement. I feel so much better about it.

We actually did not have an interview. No interview for AOS or ROC.

i will say that when it came to doing that paperwork I spent MUCH less time on ROC. I normally would spend weeks double checking everything before sending it out, then questioning everything I sent.

ROC felt thrown together to me, a lot less organized, and a bit rushed, but apparently it was good enough to get approved without RFE or interview!

That's great to hear...Your paperwork must have been very well prepared! I did have an interview for AOS, and I brought all the evidence of the bona fide marriage with me...but the interviewer didn't even bother to look at them🤣 I'm so relieved. Now I can be a little bit more at ease and prepare for it better.

As you go through ROC, try to send in your stuff and then not think about it too much (easier said than done, I know). My husband and I are at the ROC stage right now, and although it is not very difficult, it does take a while. It is totally normal for it to take about a year and a half (and of course every case is different). If you worry about it every day, that will be a LOT of unnecessary worrying. I would also recommend that you talk to a counselor and/or see your family doctor to talk about your anxiety. This immigration stuff isn't fun for anybody, but it must be extra terrible to deal with if you have anxiety. Counseling can teach you some good, healthy coping mechanisms to help you through the waiting! Good luck!

Spoiler

12/18/2015- NOA 1

1/29/2016- NOA 2

2/18/2016- Letter from NVC saying they're forwarding to Guangzhou

3/4/2016- Received P3, returned it about a week later

3/22/2016- P4 email

5/12/16- Interview. Approved!

5/16/16- After a few days saying administrative processing, CEAC now says issued!

Additional snafu: my fiancé came over on his visa, but just a month later (and the day before we were going to get married) he had an emergency that necessitated him returning to China.  I contacted the Guangzhou consulate via their email system, provided the requested documents/proof, and he was granted a second interview for "reissuance."  He had to re-do the medical, redo the interview (bringing yet another copy of all of the things he had to bring the first time) and we were approved again!  He received what looked like a new visa in his passport, but the original 90 day countdown for marriage was still ticking.  He came back to the US and we got married right away!

8/22/16- Married!

AOS

9/30/16- Filed for AOS, EA, AP

10/6/16- NOA 1 for AOS, EA, and AP (USCIS case status website says case was received on October 4th)

11/9/16- Bio appointment

12/13/16- EA and AP approved!

no news... case status on website still says "fingerprint fee received..."

4/11/17- submitted online service request for case out of normal processing time (over 6 months)

5/2/17- USCIS website updated to "My card is being produced!"

5/10/17- Green Card received

ROC

3/2/19- Filed ROC

3/8/19- NOA/18mo extension received

5/7/19- Bio appointment

9/2/20- Interview scheduled for next month!

Thank you for the advice! I know...I always worry unnecessarily...I think I'll talk to my therapist about it, but I feel so much less anxious about the ROC now, thanks to all of you guys. Good luck on your case!😘
