DENVER (AP) – Colorado’s Democrat-controlled Legislature has approved a bill to join other states in casting their presidential electoral votes for the winner of the national popular vote. The House voted 34-29 Thursday to approve the bill, which had cleared the Senate.

Gov. Jared Polis has indicated he will sign the legislation.

Under the bill, Colorado would join 11 states and the District of Columbia in the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact. Currently, the state’s electoral votes are cast for whoever wins in Colorado.

From further reading, for this to go into effect, enough states have to sign on to represent 270 electoral votes. Right now they are at 181. Apparently this has been around for several years. Guess I missed it until now.

And therein lies part of the problem... people will see this years after it began, think, “Oh, it’s been a thing for many years now”, and do nothing to fight it.  Complacency will be the undoing of our nation.

Thanks for bringing it to light.  Gonna email Hillary on her private server now and see if we can arrange some suicides of the supporters.

So what they are saying is that if your state votes for candidate A, but candidate B wins the popular vote, your state's actual votes don't count?  Or maybe your votes gets changed after they are submitted?

Got it.  Makes perfect sense.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

I would rather see more states allocate electoral votes proportionately at the state level. This would still minimize the ability of large states to have too much influence, but it would also give states that were more evenly divided the ability to say everyone was fairly represented. It would also stop candidates from spending all their time in so called swing states. Every state would be important.

Regardless of what we do though, it should be the will of the people. It seems like a lot of this right now is from the legislative level in Democrat majority states who are still stuck in what happened in 2016. It would be better to recognize the reasons that led to 2016 and the mistakes which were made. Address those factors, rather than changing the system to override it. It's easy to whine about popular vote, but it's not something to get stuck in. It can work both ways. Democrats lost because many in their own party couldn't even support the candidate who won the nomination. Do a better job with that and you won't need to change the system.
