Thinking of getting married to Taiwanese and moving back to America asap.

I've been seeing my Taiwanese gf for 2.5 years now. I was thinking how best to get married. Neither of us care for a big wedding. I was thinking of going to an equivalent of a courthouse and making us official. Then filling a spouse visa asap. We live together and share bills, but everything is in her name will this be issue? I was thinking of getting married within the next month or 2 and filing the spouse visa asap. I'm hoping for both of us to be working in America by Summer 2020.  Is this possible?  I've read about the requirements and I would have my parents sponsoring as they make plenty above the 120% poverty line. Or whatever the amount, they make enough. Any thoughts appreciated.

My advice is to marry her in Taiwan......It is extremely easy......you need only to sign a marriage contract and have 2 witnesses.....you then register the marriage at her household registration office......done...no need for anything formal at all.....You can then get a legal (English language) marriage certificate.......then start the CR-1 process.......The timeline of her being able to work in the US in the summer of 2020 is perfect........

Another thing: She can make visits to the US during the CR-1 process.....but she can not move to the US and remain until she has her CR-1 visa.  Current processing time for a CR-1 is 12-14 months.......so you might want to marry and start the process asap.

 

Note:  I could neither read nor write in Chinese when we lived in Taiwan....so our lease was in my wife's name......it was not an issue at all.

Are you also living in Taiwan right now?  If so, you need to research DCF (Direct Consular Filing).  I a not sure if that is available in Taiwan, but if it is, it would be the fastest route.

Apparently, DCF is not available in Taipei.  Just keep in mind that a spousal visa (CR1/IR1) will take 12-14 months to get through the system.

Also something to keep in mind, you will need to establish proof of US domicile or evidence of intent to establish US domicile, so read up on that topic to see what you need to do.  Sometimes that means you move to the US before your spouse to get a job in the US, set up a place to live, get a DL, bank account, etc. in the US.
