Renew Driver's License in Arizona

My wife's green card expires 2/8/19(and subsequently driver's license expires same day), we sent I-751 last week, haven't gotten any updates to it being received yet.

Is she able to renew her driver's license in the meantime or do we need to wait for the receipt # from USCIS? I've seen conflicting information that some states will renew it without the # while others require it.

Anyone have any Arizona specific information on the process?

Thank you!

Quick search on the Arizona DMV led me to this (I didn't do an in dept search) Your Driver License or Identification Card expiration date will match the expiration date of your Authorized Presence Document.

So I don't think she's able to renew her license without the extension letter of her Green Card since she has no proof that it's actually extended and her DL expiration date has to match her GC.

Also, I assume you're typing in USA date right? (M/D/Y)? Just checking since I-751 can only be filed 90 days before expiration of the current GC (what you prob already knew lol)

You have to have the extension letter not just the case number to do it.

Guess once accepted and you got case number you can try to make an infopass and get her passport stamped and that way get her DL.

You did file file very close to When the GC expires which is also one of the reasons they recommend to file as soon as you can.

If renewing the DL really a big deal for her like she would lose her job or won't be able to drive the kids to school, your best shot is to make an info pass apt at your local office and get her passport stamped as a proof of status, with it you'll be able to renew the DL for at least a year and then you'll get the 18 month extension which will allow her to renew it again

It's been taking a month for the receipt letters lately to arrive.  As others have said, your only certain process to avoid a lapse in driving privileges is to make an Infopass appointment and get the stamp.

I agree, it's important to file early on in the 90 day window so greencard AND drivers license are still valid the whole time until the extension letter shows up. Let this be a heads-up to anyone filing in the future. Plan the filing wisely, it'll make your life so much easier.
