I will be going for my visa Interview come March 6th this year, conference invitation though on Oil and gas, I have taken to memory the hotel, the address as well as the inviting party Invitation Information there in Texas. I am believing By the grace of God I will make a headway, I have over 5 years of experience Working here in Nigeria, Not married.. Now here comes my question.

If I am going for a Conference would the visa officer ask me Questions Relating to the Conference? I am a Solutions Architect / Software Developer and I am going for an Oil and gas conference. We have built some Automated Projects for Some oil and gas companies too, and I stated it in my DS-160. Again, In the University, We did borrowed courses for Engineering and thats how I came to understand this course as well, Though not 100% , its a borrowed course - Remember.

What do you think, I am already studying about the Technology and Naval Architecture. Advise needed.

Most likely questions relating to the conference will follow once the officer asks the purpose of you wanting to visit the US, and you tell him it's to go to a conference.

It's not a must.

Travel history may help to show that you've honored other visas and return home rather than use those opportunities to illegally immigrate to another country with better living standards than your own.

When you apply for a US visitor visa, everything about you is fair game to the visa officer.  He can ask about anything.

Like I said, Its a conference I am going for, and this is my first time traveling as I really have been busy with office work and trying to step up my game...

You’ll presumably have a letter from your company on official letterhead confirming that you work for them and that they are funding the conference trip?

Yes, I do. and they would be helping with bank Statements as well. What do you think? Am I Missing out anything? I also have the Leave approval from them too.

Personally, I don't think a VO will ask about how the conference would help the company. The focus is more on the applicant.

Other possible questions I can think of off the top of my head...

  • How long have you been working for the company or in that position?
  • Have you traveled to other countries before? If so, where?
  • Do you know of anyone outside of the company that lives in the US? If so, who?

Let us know how it goes.

keep in mind if your from a high fraud country, getting visit visa to USA could be slim.

I know a friend who was a doctor, who was invited to speak at a conference in USA, he went to his interview with invitation letter, strong ties to his country, as he has his own practice and was still denied a visa to visit for the conference.

Sounds odd that a company would be helping with bank statements. Is it a small company or a big one?

if you’re going for a conference for work why do you need leave? That also sounds odd.
