Credit Bureau can't verify issue date of SS card

Interesting problem I am running into and want to share and wondering if anyone else here experienced or experiencing this.

My foreign wife tried to apply for a Macy card and kept being denied.  I checked her credit report and it has a notice saying "The issue date of the social security number that you gave us when you contacted us is not verified by the social security administration".  The Macy card appears to have been denied for this reason.

It seems that once you initially get your SS card with VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION and have that removed by SS Administration , they issues you are new card with new issuing dates.    Here is a similar post I found online... https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/General-Credit-Topics/Notice-on-my-EXPERIAN-credit-report-help-me-understand/td-p/1605466

Looks like I need to dispute this with the credit bureau reporting this.  They won't allow me to dispute this easily online.  I have to send bunch of confidential information,  Knowing Experian's past security breach history I don't want to send anything confidential to them.. I basically lost faith in these credit bureaus.  For now this is not a big problem since I added my wife as a authorized user and she doesn't have much of a credit history to get a credit card anyways even this notice is removed from the report.    I am taking care of her financially so she not have to worry about needing background checks done or getting loans so not a big problem now.  I am wondering if this will clear up on its own or I have to start writing dispute letters.

We are having problems with credit karma.  It wont let her register for it even though she has a social and is a permanent resident.  We have credit karma working on it though to find a solution.

My understanding is that by being added as authorized user it helps build credit history not quickly as if you were the primary card holder but surely.

My credit report says the same thing, it’s just what it says for every single ssn issued after 1995 (or something like that). It doesn’t hinder its holder getting credit cards or anything.

She was probably denied because she doesn’t have a credit history. That happened to me 2+ years ago in my first attempt at getting a card.

but as others have already suggested, going directly to your bank (where you’re an account holder) will be a more successful approach. It worked for me.

I would dispute it. Experian is a cloak and dagger outfit, they are the hardest one to settle a dispute with. It took me two years of back and forth with them to get some wrong information taken off. If you do not dispute it, it will stay in the record.

Good Luck

Craig

When I convert my bank account to a joint account will that finally make something show up on her credit report?

Joint bank account. Secured credit card (Credit One, etc.). Buy something on installment and pay it off on a consistent basis (don't pay off early and don't be late with payments) - but make sure they report to credit agencies. Credit is built slowly. Adding someone as an authorized card user does zero for the second user - it does not build their credit.

Credit card companies like Citi Bank. CHASE report authorized users to credit bureau.  My foreign wife's credit report already shows the credit card use.

Not for joint checking/ savings accounts. If you add her to a credit card, then, yes, most likely it will very soon after
