I went into chase bank today and they told me I couldn't open one.

I had my passport, SSN and green card. One proof of address. And they said I needed more proof of ID.

Were they all in the same name?

Now that my fiancee' has her SSN she should be able to open up a bank account right?  I tried to create a new bank account with her and I as both joint owners and it tells me she must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. resident alien to open up a discover bank account.  We have just applied for the AOS so we don't have a green card yet.  So what can we do? I'm confused as I thought people were saying once we have a SSN we could open a bank account, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

I added my husband to my account to make it a joint one - Bank of America without SSN in a branch.

He applied for checking & savings account online with SSN in Discover (best checking/savings IMO).

Go to Bank of America. They let me open a bank account when I was on my visitor visa. They'd give your dog a bank account if it wants one.

Was your husband able to get his checking and savings account setup at Discover?

Looks like Discover is requiring a State license's, A utility/Phone Bill, and a SSN card for proof to be added as a joint owner or new account.  Not sure we can get all these things as my fiancee has never drove in her life and we were told the SC DMV requires a EAD card before you can get one.  Also, the utility/phone bills are not in her name unfortunately.

This is so stressful.  This is where all my banking is and I am not sure how I am suppose to add her as an a joint owner for the AOS interview for proof of being in a marriage if they need all this stuff.
