J1 to B2 extension

If approved, your stay will be extended until the date you requested on the COS/EOS application. If approved after that date, you would still be out of status from the date you requested until you leave.

If still in status at the time of filing, you can file another I-539.

Note that it is going to look desperate to stay in the US by doing so IMO.

If deemed frivolous, the out of status will start/continue from the date of filing.

One thing I do not understand when you file you say for how long you need to stay and why, what did you say?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Also, you need to be in status to file another COS/EOS. As of July 8th, 2018, you no longer have a legal status (although you have an authorized stay while your existing application is pending).

Precisely.

You can’t file an extension when you don’t have anything to file it from. At this stage you don’t know that your change of status will be granted - many aren’t. To be honest even if the first one is granted I’d be very surprised if the extension is. What ties to home are you showing, being away for such a very long time? Do you have indefinite savings to live off, because we have to assume you are not working illegally to fund your continued travels around the US? (I mean,,, you are on a requested tourist status, you are doing tourist stuff? Not actually living somewhere? Right?)
