Joint tax transcript?

Hey all,

I read somewhere that when you file joint tax return, the tax transcript doesn't show your individual income. (I am sponsoring my husband for cr1, we are at NVC stage. I got an ITIN for him and we were able to do a joint tax return for 2017) should I also submit the 1040 or would the W2 be sufficient to show my individal income. I am also submitting paystubs and employment letter.

Thanks!

Correct, the taxes will show joint income.

If you are an employee (i.e. you get a W-2), then taxes won't show your current income anyway...they show past income for a W-2 employee. The paystubs + employment letter show current income. The tax return is still required to be presented, though.

Ok thanks. So I can just present the transcript, paystub, W2 and employment letter. I don't need to provide 1040

1) For any period, which you have W2, you dont need individual pay stubs. Only for the current years months, you may need pay stubs.

2) Your income on paystubs/ W2s is not COMPLETE. Only your IRS tax transcripts would give complete picture. You can get the transcripts online IRS site and print them at home(or as @adil-rafa has mentioned above, you can go to the near by IRS office and get the free copies.

No.

Information from tax returns does not relate to current income.  For the tax section of the affidavit, show the number from line 22 of the 1040 or adjusted gross income from the 1040EZ.  You must provide three years information and either one complete tax return with W2s or one tax return transcript for the latest tax year.

On the current income section of the affidavit, you state YOUR personal current income, which will come from a current pay stub or employer letter.

You will then provide SEPARATE from the tax return, evidence of current income, in the form of a current pay stub or employer letter.  You can also provide both.

DO not confuse taxes with current income.  If you lost your job last week, you have ZERO current income, no matter what you made in 2017 or any other year.
