Do we have to wait for the I751 to get approved before we apply for N400? I sent my I751 recently and I was hoping to get some advice on how and what to prepare for sending the N400 application when my 90-day window opens up. I got marriage based GC and we are still married, living together and raising a kid as well. Please advise and thank you,

I filed on the first day of the 90 day window before 3 years.

I attached tax return transcripts, apartment leases, joint bank statements, anything else joint like insurance etc, marriage certificate, wife’s passport, green card etc...pretty similar to what I sent for i751 really.

 

It’s fine if the i751 hasn’t been approved (mine hasn’t)

Then we were going through my application - all questions I had to answer verbally. I`m glad we did that because one of the questions on the N400 I answered incorrectly - Part 12 Quest 19. It appears that Conceal carry license that I have falls under that category. So she corrected it.

 

Also she asked me to sign a form that I wasn`t aware that I have to register for selective service.

 

I had a couple driving  tickets from two and half years ago and because of that my n400 wasn`t approved right away and will be reviewed within 120 days. 

I also brought quite a few support letters from various people "for counter weight" my tickets.  She said that they prefer them notarized but took them and put in the file.

 

She also said if my interview was in April then these tickets I had would be out of 3 year review period..... Fingers crossed.

So Finally, good news. After waiting for about 140 days after the interview, I called USCIS office and asked about my case. Regular respond : we will make an inquiry.

On Sunday I received multiple emails/texts stating that my case was approved and they put me in line for Oath ceremony.... I checked online, the copy of the letter is not available yet in the Document tab.... But its says Approx Waiting time 4 months...... Not sure if this is actual wait time for my case, I guess I`ll have to wait until I get the letter with date and place....

Dang...some of you are still waiting for to be interviewed? Really? Thats really unfair. Stay strong guys. 

While my naturalization process wasn't the fastest one, I still managed to get my US Passport at the beginning of March and traveled twice overseas as a US Citizen. I even managed to lose my brand new passport and then replace it. And yet, some of the people that applied for naturalization even before I did, are still checking their mailboxes everyday hoping to see the magic letter. Wow.

So the good news is I finally have an interview date! 😊

 

I'm applying as the spouse of a US citizen under the 3 year rule, and this will be a combined I-751 and N-400 interview. Will the US citizen's 'certificate of live birth' be sufficient? This is what we used instead of a birth certificate for the green card application a few years ago.

 

Has any US citizen spouse just used a passport instead?

Just had our interview today. I didn't go in with my husband to the back room because I didn't know if I was allowed to or not. Turns out other couples looked like they were going in together. In the end we ended up being rejected. I really wish I would have been in the room with my husband but the paper we received said he passed both his test but a decision couldn't be made at the current time. The two reasons my husband gave were (1) he didn't apply for selective service and (2) they needed more evidence. He is 31 years old on the day of the interview (30 when we applied for citizenship) and came to the US when he was 27. From my understanding he does NOT need to register because he was older than 25 when we arrived in the US as an immigrant. I'm not sure if the older than 31 rule applies to when the application for citizenship is received or when the interview happens. 

 

The second part, more evidence, I'm confused about. The only things we brought with us was past housing rent contracts, past 3 years of taxes, and documents for the house we just bought in July. I didn't think we would be asked for anything because we have been submitting evidence since 2015 about our marriage. Apparently the officer told my husband he wanted to see pictures. But may have backtracked on either the picture part or evidence as a whole; but according to my husband kept bringing up the lack of selective service registration. I've been so busy working 2 jobs and taking 14 credits this summer so I know we didn't go into the interview with as much documents as I would have liked. One of those documents was the explicit instruction from the sss.gov website to excuse anyone over the age of 31 from being required to have registered.

 

Anyway. Very, VERY frustrated that this would be the only thing holding us back when, from my understanding, the officer is 100% wrong. Just happened a couple of hours ago, so we'll have to wait to see what the official papers say.

Sorry to hear, but I don't believe you have been rejected.  N652 no decision made is pretty normal while the IO verifies matters and supervisor reviews.  Maybe in this case he/the supervisor will verify that the Selective Service registration was not in fact required and you should be all set.

Had my interview today in Santa Ana, CA.

 

Passed the test, but decision cannot be made due to pending ROC. Hopefully I’ll hear something in a couple of days.
