I was in Miami at the beginning of June. They certainly do have that problem.

do you have some data to back up your claim that they have the same scope and depth of problem as San Francisco. :jest:

Homelessness is up in SF due to skyrocketing house / rental costs

A studio apartment costs 3,000. In 2010 a studio apartment cost 1300 - 1400. Basically anyone living in the city earning less than 75k is effectively in poverty.

Also because SF allows them to do this and goes out of their way to give them whatever they want and accede to their demands.

But you are right about your income figures unless they are in subsidiZed housing. Which there has already been a lawsuit where the tenants won basically saying that their landlord can not force them out just to raise the rent.

Yeah rent control doesn't really solve the problem, though the landlord in that case was in the wrong at the end of the day....

I've seen the flip side of this too, where a guy, who is worth 4-5 million and in his 30s still maintain's his rent controlled flat in North beach and pays less than 1000.

I have heard a lot about that in SF, LA and NY. Where people have lived in the same place for decades and still paying the same amount for years which in some cases are 1/3 market value.

Then why would anyone making less than 75k live there.

That is what amazes me when I see my former boss open up jobs in the bay area because they are basically at poverty wages for that area. Luckily I worked at the remote office in Pasadena and it was ok, but they were all the time trying to get some of us to come up there but the COL is out of sight.

Downtown Denver can't end up like that. It hit's -20 in the winter.

Doesn't really matter who you vote for, if you don't have a health system and social network that can get people off the streets, this is what happens. And, yeah, it does tend to be worse in cities with year round temperate climates.

Agree. Downtown Denver has some homeless people, but not as much as San Francisco. If I were homeless, I would think survival is more doable in San Francisco or LA, or other warmer cities. It's too cold in Denver.

As for Boulder, the homeless there are recognizable long-timers--those who have mastered outdoor living in the winter. There aren't a lot of them and they move in groups. The numbers go up in the summer when you get hobby panhandlers who have soft, not so sunburned skin. These newbies disappear beginning fall.

But generally, Colorado is an AWFUL place to live in. Please do not move here. Especially if you're from Silicon Valley. Just skip the state. It'll be too cold for you. And the spring hailstorms--don't get me started.

Colorado has guns, best to stay in Kalifornia.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
