Hi! We need some help!

 

Additional information:

1. Petitioner is me, USC

2. Beneficiary is my spouse

 

As you can see in the photos attached (I-864 affidavit of support form) part 3 no.29 tells you to enter the total number of immigrants you are sponsoring on this affidavit. In our case I enter “1.”

 

Determining the household size:

 

On part 5 no.1 I am told to enter the number of persons I am sponsoring on this affidavit, which is the same as part 3 no.9, so I enter = “1”

 

Now this is where the confusion starts:

 

part 5 no.2 yourself = “1” (I am part of the household)

part 5 no.3 says if you are currently married enter ‘1’ for your spouse = so I enter “1”

part 5 no.8 tells me to add together part 5 nos.1-7 so I put = “3”

 

there’s a specific instruction that YOU CANNOT COUNT ANY MEMBER OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD MORE THAN ONCE, so my question is:

 

is my household size “3” instead of “2”? My spouse is also the intending immigrant so it only makes sense that my household size is 2, me and my spouse. But the instructions tell me to add together everything.

 

PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS MATTER!!!

Your household size is 2. You should leave part 5 no. 3 blank (or zero). This is for people not sponsored in the affidavit (and you spouse IS sponsored).

exactly, never enter a person twice, since your wife is your beneficiary, she is not listed as your spouse, but as the beneficiary, so the household size is 2

 

that is in case you are sponsoring someone else other than your spouse, such as parent, child or sibling, then your spouse needs to be counted as part of the household size

Thank you! But what should I put under part 5 no.3? If I put “0” or “-“ will it be considered falsification of informantion? Thanks!

Thanks for the response! I read the instructions for filling out I-864 and I don’t think I can put “0” because it specifically says there that you only put “0” if you’re NOT married. Can I leave a dash “-“ instead of a blank? We’re just really worried that if we ever put a dash it would signify falsification of information because in reality I am married.

 

I’m thinking I just put “1” and then for the total household size I’ll put “2”??? Suggestions?

Yes, sorry-don't write zero. I'd just leave it blank - (If you fill in the file electronically- using, for example, adobe, it automatically adds whatever you write there to the household size, so you shouldn't write a 1).  A dash should be ok (I think). I wouldn't worry too much about falsification of information-your intent is quite clear, and the instructions tell you not to count people twice.

Zero or blank is fine on the Adobe file.  That is not falsification, when sponsoring a spouse.  The question is about people who in your household but NOT being sponsored on this affidavit.  YOUR spouse IS being sponsored on this affidavit.  Get it?
