~~moved to K1 process and procedures~~

If you want the K1 Visa you have to stay unmarried.  If you want to marry before your fiance leaves for the USA you'd have to chase the CR1 visa.

No, if he is on orders then he can send it off right now and by the time he goes back to the USA you can process in Uganda.

What do you mean? He can start the I-129F petition now.  He doesn't have to be in the USA.  It will take about 8 months or so before you get your visa.  Then you have to enter the USA, get married within 90 days, file for your adjustment of status (aos) and wait about a year to get your green card.

If you choose the CR1 route he can also start it now and it will be about 12-14 months before you get your visa but when you enter the USA you immediately have a green card.

Highly suggest you two figure out which route works best for you and proceed from there.

Alright thank you all for your advise....

Start off with the Form I-129F process. He can download the form and attach the fees (credit cards are accepted and use form G-1450) Make sure to take a lot of couples pictures/selfies. You have to prove US Customs and Immigrations/NVC/US Consulate that you two are really engaged. If possible ask him to get an engagement ring and do some picture session at the base etc. Process is simple but time consuming. If you start now by the end of the year you will have your visa in hand. I wish you two all the best.

Is he an active duty soldier? If he is, there is a dedicated phone number on USCIS website to help military members and families. If the military base is in a country where USCIS has foreign processing office, your boyfriend can apply i129F(if you want to get fiance visa) or I130 (if you are already married) to that foreign office. It is way quicker than sending application to USCIS offices in US. Since he is in military, you can request expedited processing for your I130/I485. Your boyfriend can go to JAG office (this is the legal assistant office for Army) to ask for help. They can at least direct him to correct contact/ procedure. Hope this helps.

OP,  having had a formal engagement ceremony or a ring is not a requirement for obtaining K-1 Fiancee visa. You do have to have the intent to marry within 90 days of the fiancee arriving in the US. Including the letter of intent. Of course If he has the ring then fine but its not mandatory to have one. Many people get engaged without a ring involved (at least not right away) or without an engagement ceremony.  Focus on the solid proof you have like plane tickets, pictures of you together, trips, etc.

If he asked you to marry and you said yes then you are both engaged. Simple as that. You don't need a ring to make the relationship look real. I for one did not have a ring until later and I never was asked to show one during my K1 interview but I don't come from high risk country.

After my arrival to US we did have a little dinner gathering with his family and close friends at a nice restaurant so I consider that my little engagement "ceremony" to meet everybody on his side, his most important people in his life.

I agree it's not a requirement to have an engagement ceremony, but a ring and pictures will definitely be convincing. And I'd rather be safe than sorry.
