Hello,

Good day to you, Please I will like to ask about my police report. I will be having interview this month and the police report that I submitted to NVC was issued in November and it stated on the police certificate that it will be expire in three months and NVC stated that police certificate are valid for 1 year so do you think I will need a new police certificate or the one I had is okay. Thanks.

even though they say they expire in 3 months, NVC accepts it to be valid for a year because of the time it takes to get through the process.

you will be okay.

I disagree. If it has an expiration date, they check it. At my interview, the employee putting my documents together for the consul highlighted the expiration date on all my police certificates.

That's why I'm convinced. But I got a friend from Nigeria embassy that his police certificate was issued last year August and he had his interview in Febuary then he was fine with his interview. Thanks.

It’s better to be safe than sorry.

for immigration purpose they are valid for 1 year.

There is no set period of time for which the Police Certificate is considered to be valid. Embassies, High Commissions, consulates or other authorities will usually require you to produce a Police Certificate which has been issued less than six months before your visa interview or travel date.

since OP got it in November and their interview is in March, they are safe.

Many of the countries where you get the certificate will only issue so many a year.

Yes, that is true but I was just simply stating my experience at my interview and I watched them highlight both the issued date and the expiration date of every single police certificate I turned in.

Consulates go by issue dates, not expiration dates.  Expiration dates are important to locals entities, not Consulates.  If it's not too much trouble, I would just get a new one anyway.
