Filed single instead of married

My husband filed single instead of married. Does it affect our immigration process? And since we will have a joint aponsor. Thank you!

In the I130 he put he was single? 

If it's like I'm saying, it will be asked to re-do the I130!

He shouldn’t have filed taxes as single, there have been cases on here where the consulate have taken this to show the relationship isn’t real. Ask him to file amended taxes for the years he filed as single when he should have filed married filing separately, he will need to print and hand write nra in the ssn box

NVC wont affect at all, so we will ammend later before the interview. We used turbo tax tho dont know how to put NRA

Yeah you can’t file online when this happens, probably why they decided to file as single.

When using turbo tax and in this case since your spouse doesn't have a SSN. First you have to file as Married filing separately. Then you have to use "999-88-9999" as their SSN and continue until the very end. At the very end you will choose to change filing method and choose file by mail. Once you do that you will print everything out along with the instructions and white out the "999-88-9999" where it appears and write NRA. Then you will attach the Copy B of your W-2, sign and date and mail it to where the instructions say. Same process for state returns. Keep copies of these for your record.

There are 2 camps on this issue-- the camp that says it's no problem (because people have gotten through filing as single) and the other camp that says it's a problem (as mentioned above that problems surfaced at the consulate). But there is no need to freak out because you can amend it and it is highly recommended to do it before the interview.
