Moving interview to another embassy

Is it possible to move our visa interview to another embassy (in another country)?

It's looking like we're going to have a long an uncertain wait at the embassy in Moscow. We've paid the visa fee and prepared all documents, but we're still waiting to be assigned an interview date. The Moscow embassy site doesn't show any dates available to choose from, and some people have been reporting waiting more than a month. Looking at the immigration timelines page, it seems like no Russian applicants have been reported interview dates at all for the last few months.

Could the medical exam still be performed in Russia? Is there a limitation to what countries we can transfer our case to, if any? What would be the expected wait if we asked the NVC to transfer our case? I don't expect I'll be seeing my interview fee again if we do decide to move to another embassy.

Thanks for and answers and advice!

-Matt

Yes the case can be transferred. However, you must have legal residence in the country you are moving it to in order to interview there. You must also complete the medical through their panel physician, and follow all their other processes for the visa.

The timeline to transfer the case varies depending on the embassies involved. My wife moved her case from Riyadh to Manila due to her work contract expiring, and it only added a couple weeks to the timeline. YMMV...it could take weeks or it could take months. Then there's the timeline from when they receive the case until they are ready to interview, which also varies from embassy to embassy.

To transfer the case, you would contact the destination embassy/consulate and request that they submit a transfer to the Russian embassy/consulate that holds your case.

Unless you have a compelling reason other than a few months wait, it's probably best to wait it out.

Ahh. I wasn't aware of the legal residence requirement, though it makes sense. It looks like we'll have no option but to wait in the dark. Thanks for your quick answer!

One girl wrote in different Embassies with question if she can transfer her case from Moscow Embassy to their Embassy. They asked details and organized transfer by themself.

Vietnam Embassy was needed a lot of documents, Estonian was busy, Georgian didnt answer, but Ukranin answered her that she can transfer her case to their Embassy and they transfered it by themself. Her case was in Ukranian Embassy in a 3 days

So you have to just try)

Probably your fiance can read this story here and ask those girl - her nickname is Seiyah: http://tutnetam.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=150782&p=4238736#p4238736

The only permission you need is if the receiving Embassy agrees to the transfer then you can move forward with the request

YMMV

How did this all work out for you?  We are also waiting for Moscow with no appointments in sight.
