Well, my wife just got her I-485 interview notice in the mail today. I couldn't find any recent posts (2016 or newer) about this so I'm making one now to help those around the same time period.

Question 1
My Wife and I filed also for EAD, request for work authorization in order to work whilst the Green Card is approved. We haven't gotten anything about that yet; does this mean she'll have her GC approved before the EAD can be issued?

Question 2
What happens after a I-485 interview? How long does it take to get a GC if the interview is successful?

Thanks in advance, guys!

If the greencard is approved before the EAD, she will never recieve the EAD.

It usually takes around 2 weeks to receive the greencard once it's approved.

Two weeks after an approved interview? Forgive my ignorance: I'm just getting things straight before explaining to my wife.

They can approve the GC right there at the interview, then 2 weeks later it comes in the mail, right?

They can approve the i-485 at any point after the interview. Either right after the interview when you're still in the IOs office, or later on. I was approved on the spot for instance, while many others have to wait for days, weeks or even months after the interview to get an approval.

From the approval date (which like I said can be any day after the interview or same day as the interview) the greencard usually shows up within 2 weeks. Often they tell you to wait for 4 weeks just to be on the safe side, but normally it's somewhere between 1-2 weeks (it's sent with priority mail).

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would help me with my questions please...

1 - I have also just received my interview letter in the post after 1 year 7 months of waiting to be interviewed! Anyway, I just wanted to know what documents are required to take with me to the IO’s office and can I take my babies and spouse to the interview?

I would appreciate a list of documents required and what to expect at the interview.

@ Icfreshful, how did your wife’s interview go?

Appreciate all your comments...

Thank you.

Hello

Your spouse has to come with you, it is a requirement. Your baby can too, it is always a good proof but depending on his/her age it may not be the best idea because you are scheduled for a certain time but they may call ypu later than that time (we waited for an hour before getting called) and the interview itself could be between 10 min to an hour depending on your IO. If you have a small baby it is okay but a toddler could be hard to handle during the interview

It is fine  in a medium size office with 2 chairs and not a lot of space for  toddler to move around.

The documents required are all the ones listed on the letter and some pictures from the relationship and wedding are also good, it is best to have more than not enough.

What to expect : questions on your relationship, be able to tell each other parents full name and spouse DOB, how you met, proposal, who attended your wedding,  where your spouse works and vice versa, previous places of Living for each other, if you met each other parents, they will go over the application and verify if it is accurate and go thru all the Yes/No questions.

You will be okay , dont stress it and be yourself :)

Good luck

Thank you so much for your comments... Very helpful and appreciate.

The babies are about 17 months old and wouldn’t want to interrupt the IO whilst interviewing us with the toddlers.

Great, thank you. 😊
