Hello!

Reading the instructions for I-129F it says that a certified translation is needed for everything in a foreign language. Is it necessary to have Facebook messages and Whatsapp messages translated by a certified translator or can I do this myself?

Anything submitted to the USCIS in a foreign language must be accompanied by a translation.  Evidence  of an ongoing relationship such as this is NOT required for the petition

YMMV

You can translate each item yourself if you are fluent in BOTH English and the foreign language. At the end of each translation, include the following statement:

CERTIFICATE OF TRANSLATION I, ___________________________, am competent to translate from ________________ into English, and certify that the translation of ________(name of document)________ is true and accurate to the best of my abilities.

Signature of Translator

Date

Name of Translator

Address of Translator

Telephone Number of Translator

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

So do you suggest I translate the messages myself?

My suggestion is to save yourself the effort and just focus on submitting quality proof of a face to face meeting.

Facebook messages are secondary evidence of relationship at best. USCIS is not gonna care to see that. USCIS needs proof of meeting in person and Facebook is not that.

Like other people said, I would provide as much as information possible, if you guys have photos together, photos of places that you have traveled, family gathering photos, chats in english.....I always like to go with more rather than less, USCIS will never get back to you and say you provided TOO MUCH proof, but sure they can and will tell if you you dont provide enough.

Good luck

I am going through similar situation. Do I need to translate our messages? If so do I need it done through a certified translator or I can do it myself? What did you end up doing and what was the outcome?

For what part of the process?  Petition?  Embassy?

YMMV
