I recently changed addresses, still actually moving stuff from our old house but living in the new house.  As you can imagine I am in the thick of it, can't find a thing, boxes sitting to be unpacked and more to pack at the old place. I realised I needed to change address with USCIS, I thought it would be easy, but oh no it's a HUGE headache right now!

Someone on visa journey told me I needed to file an AR11 and also an I-865.  So I went online to do so as I have a pending ROC application.  Only I tried numerous times around 10 times and when I came to the signature part it would not allow me to type anything.  The end result was that I rang up USCIS. I spoke to a Tier 1 person and asked, two questions.  I know I need to inform the USCIS do I need to fill in a manual AR11 (which seems to be different to the online version) and does my husband need to fill in the form I-865.  They couldn't answer, they couldn't change my address and they said they would put me through to a Tier 2 officer. I was put in an automated queue and received a phone call 5 hours later from a Tier 2 officer. I asked the same questions and he said I should send the AR11 and not the I-865 as I have been a permanent resident since 2014.

However, reading the I-865 instructions it says they apply until I am a citizen, get deported die etc. So now I am doubly confused as to what to do, if I send the form I have covered each angle, however I many confuse USCIS and if I don't send the form I may land myself in trouble. Any help would be grateful, although I am tending to believe the kind person on visa journey who told me about the form I-865. However, I would have not known about this form as it is not in the change of address on the USCIS website, had that person made me aware.

Sorry guys my head is spinning and time is ticking. A quick response would be very much appreciated, any one else had this problem or moved during ROC?

Thanks that is the link I used around 10 times that would not work, hence me ringing them up. For some reason when I came to the signature bit and such it would not let me sign it. So apparently I have to send a manual Ar11 through the post which isn't as detailed and also ring up the USCIS so they can update my file with a pending case.  Which I have done, its the I-865 form that is really puzzling me as its not mentioned on the change of address with USCIS and the Tier 2 officer said I don't need to send it.  However, a kind individual on here told me about this particular form and when I read it, it says even if the sponsor is moving with you they need to send this form until you become a citizen, the Tier 2 officer says that is not true, as I am a permanent green card holder. What is should be so easy becomes so complicated really.

The I-865 is certainly required if/when a sponsor moves; I'm not sure why USCIS would tell you that it isn't.

Try different browsers - Firefox or chrome. Check if maybe you need them updated. Or maybe you have and add blocker enabled and it's preventing you from doing something. Changing the address via website is/should be relatively easy.

Sponsors are informed of their obligations on the I-864 where they sign, and in the instructions for the form as well. They have 30 days to inform USCIS of their change of address as long as their sponsorship is in effect. https://www.uscis.gov/i-864

It's also mentioned in this USCIS brochure https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Resources/F3en.pdf

Go by what the printed information says, not the Tier 2.

Thanks we decided to send off the 1-865 form from your advice and another fellow VJer.   We  will also track it.  Best to cover all posts.  I wish that the USCIS officers knew about this and there was more transparency. Which beggars the question why don't they know, if they change addresses on a daily basis? It just boggles the mind really.

Thanks I did remove my add blocker and I am on Chrome. I have now sent of the manual AR11 and updated my change of address for my petition. Apparently, I will get confirmations through the mail. I have also sent the 1-865 through the mail.

And yes you would think it would be easy, but no matter how many browsers I tried to use and removing my ad block still resulted in the same thing. I could fill the form in, but as soon as I got to the signature bit, it just wouldn't let me type in the boxes.

Try another PC. Especially if you have tried submitting it via phone or tablet.  I had some issues with signature forms on my laptop but not my work PC.

I decided to manually fill it in and then ring the USCIS to update my outstanding petition. We also sent off the I-865. I know that doesn't have to be in for 30 days but the AR11 does and because we are busy still moving stuff from the old house, I couldn't spend any more time trying to navigate their online form.  Thanks for your help and advice, much appreciated.

You mean those boxes? The boxes are locked until you pick the "this form is completed by" and then they should unlock.

Does the telephone agent change addresses every day? Does it even happen in the state where he works? Does every IRS agent know the entire tax code? Does every Apple tech support guy know exactly what's wrong with your phone? If in doubt, call back and see what the next bloke says.

This was a Tier 2 officer, a Tier 1 apparently didnt have the authorisation to do so.  So being a Tier 2 officer and the only one it seems has access to change of address I would expect more.  I have sent the forms now by snail mail, unfortunately with still moving stuff from the old place into the new place and with other things in our lives right now, i don't have the time to do their job for them.
