Reschedule based on our of town plans+Irma?

Hi. So my husband filed for his citizenship last month and got his biometrics letter end of business last Friday. His appointment is scheduled for next Monday, the 11th. We were planning to be out of town (me for medical stuff, him for work, then we were going to convene in the twin cities for a family gathering and were already debating whether to reschedule or cut our trip short to make it home in time for the biometrics.

 

Now we're in FL so with Irma we don't know if the field office will even be open Monday and if we'd be putting ourselves potentially in harm's way getting back.

 

on the other hand, it would be terrible to reschedule, Irma changes paths and misses FL and he can't get another appointment for months.

 

He also needs his 155 stamp and it's been hard to schedule an info pass with his work schedule. And we have potential incoming travel out of the country in a few months...

 

i guess I'm wondering 

 

a) if we reschedule how long it would take to get a new appt

 

and

 

b) if there's any way to know the likelyhood that the field office will be closed Monday.

Same thing I said in the other thread:

 

On the appointment letter it has a checkbox that says:

Quote

Please reschedule my appointment. Once USCIS receives your request, you will be sent a new appointment notice. Make a copy of this notice for your records, then mail the original with your request to BPU, Alexandria ASC, Suite 100, 8850 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22309-1586

So you'd better get than sent off ASAP if you're going to re-schedule.

 

In addition, it also says:

Quote

RESCHEDULING YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL DELAY YOUR APPLICATION. IF YOU FAIL TO APPEAR AS SCHEDULED BELOW OR FAIL TO REQUEST RESCHEDULING, YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED ABANDONED.

 

So I would do everything you possibly can to not re-schedule.

If he's out of town for work, maybe he can drop into the field office in whatever city he'll be in? You aren't required to go to the field office on the letter if you're doing a walk-in.

How easy is it to do a walk-in? The Ft Myers office doesn't do them, we tried to do it for his 155 stamp.

I was in and out of mine in about 5 minutes. If that office doesn't do them, perhaps try another office?

Are you certain they don't do it for biometrics?  Getting a I551 stamp usually requires an Infopass appointment, whereas many people often go in early for biometrics since it is usually handled by a different department.

Irma is on track to make landfall in the Keys Sunday night. So uscis might reschedule on us either way...

 

Husband looking into taking an uber to the nearest field office as he doesn't have access to a car where he is. I have the original letter though. Would he be able to present a scanned, electronic letter?

My advice is to ask USCIS, not us. They write the rules, make decisions, and open/close the office doors. Some people can walk into USCIS offices and get things done, while others seem to have problems. Ask USCIS what to do.

A copy should be fine. Or just download the PDF assuming you filed online. 

 

You're right that they may reschedule you, but I would not depend on it.

Hubby finally got ahold of an actual person and they told us to go to the nearest office to where we are on Monday. So Minneapolis field office. He said he couldn't say at this point what Florida offices will be closed.

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
